On Saturday, June 15, 2019, more than 50 community gardens across Philadelphia celebrated Philadelphia’s 6th annual Community Gardens Day. Bright blue skies brought out hundreds of gardeners, friends, and visitors to Philadelphia’s vibrant and diverse community gardens, which are rooted deeply in the city’s history and express its rich mix of cultural traditions.

NGT kicked off the festivities with a pre-Community Gardens Day celebration at the Summer-Winter Community Garden on Friday night. NGT presented 2019 Garden Hero Awards to First District Councilperson Mark Squilla, our partners at SEAMAAC, and Naw Doh, a leader at the Growing Home Garden, in recognition of their impactful work to support and sustain gardens.
